Some of the attributes that make these big stars’ smiles so amazing are: perfectly shaped teeth, the straight alignment of their teeth, and their smiles’ stunning whiteness. How does your smile measure up?

Grab a mirror and take a few moments to analyze your teeth, gums, and the overall appearance of your smile.

Shape

The shape of teeth contribute to the personality and beauty of a smile. What we consider “perfect” may not be becoming on everyone. Consider, too, that your smile should be a unique reflection of your inner beauty.

Are your two front teeth a bit larger than their neighbors, or are they much larger? Some refer to large front teeth as “bunny teeth.” They tend to be longer and larger than all other teeth in the mouth. When their shape and length are dramatically different than other teeth, “bunny teeth” can look awkward. Shortening the long front teeth and lengthening neighboring teeth will make a smile more attractive.

Canines, the two sharper teeth on either side of the top, front four teeth, should be a bit round at the bottom to avoid looking like “vampire teeth.” In some smiles, the canines extend lower than surrounding teeth and come to an obvious point, looking very canine-like. Simply smoothing out the point on canines can make a smile more attractive.

Teeth that appear short, stubby, and small may only need gum reduction to reveal larger teeth and a more impressive smile. Gum tissue naturally grows too far down, in some people, covering more tooth enamel than necessary. Removing some of the excess gum tissue can completely reform a smile, making it more appealing and mature-looking.

Spacing

Overlapping or widely spaced teeth are not as enviable as teeth that line up perfectly, with little or no space between them. Porcelain veneers, cosmetic bonding, or white crowns will fill wide spaces by adding volume to the teeth. To correct overlapping, veneers will work well, but in some cases orthodontic braces or Invisalign are a preferable option. A reputable cosmetic dentist can advise you on which treatments are best suited to correct your smile’s spacing issues.

Shine

What color are your teeth? Do they have a yellowish, brownish, bluish, or grayish hue that makes them less than beautiful? When we expose porous tooth enamel to darkly pigmented foods and drinks, or tobacco, teeth tarnish and look aged. Also, as we grow older, teeth tend to yellow. The good news is, Zoom! Whitening can bring back your brilliant smile in just one office visit.

For a naturally beautiful smile, a slightly off-white color is best. Teeth that are too white look unnatural and should be reserved for beauty pageant contestants.
