Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges restore teeth to relieve pain, while providing the ability to chew, speak, and smile with comfort and confidence. If you suffer from a toothache or need missing teeth replaced, don’t delay visiting Docklands Dental Studio. Postponing treatment could result in more extensive damage. Our team wants to help you enjoy a solid, full, healthy smile for the rest of your life!

Dental Crowns

When a tooth sustains significant damage, whether by decay, chip, fracture, or failed restoration, a dental crown can restore the tooth’s integrity. We custom make crowns to fit completely over the white portion of a tooth seen above the gum line. The restoration covers all sides of the tooth, but not the root.

Our doctors prefer to place tooth-colored crowns, particularly on teeth that show when you smile. Made of ceramic, porcelain fused to metal (PFM), or zirconia, tooth-colored crowns look natural and provide great durability. In some cases, the dentist may suggest an all-metal crown to restore a molar. All dental crowns are made in a lab and require two visits to our office.

Dental Bridges

We also offer dental bridges, sometimes called a crown and bridge appliance, to replace missing teeth.

A single lost tooth, not replaced, increases the potential for losing more teeth. In addition, empty space provides area for remaining teeth to drift out of position. Teeth drift to more evenly distribute the workload and compensate for missing teeth. Drifting, however, results in a change to occlusion – how upper and lower teeth fit together – which can cause teeth grinding or TMJ pain.

Crowns and bridges can replace one missing tooth or a few teeth in a row. Structurally, bridges feature two crowns, with a “bridge” of prosthetic teeth suspended between. The crowns fit onto healthy teeth, while one or more prosthetic teeth form a literal bridge over the gap.

Today, crowns and bridges look much more natural than they did in previous generations. Made in a dental lab, bridges feature prosthetics and crowns with reflectivity similar to natural tooth enamel. The exact shade, shape, and appearance of the replacement teeth will be dictated by the dentist’s design, for the most natural looking, esthetic results. Your bridge may look better than your natural teeth ever did! Expect to attend two visits for your bridge.

Single Implant Crowns and Implant-Retained Bridges

If you’re concerned about anchoring a bridge to natural, healthy teeth by way of crowns, consider an implant-retained bridge. We collaborate with a local oral surgeon for dental implant placement. One implant can hold a single dental crown, if you’re missing just one tooth. Or, if you’re missing a few teeth in a row, two implants can secure your bridge. Implants, with proper care and good oral health, can last a lifetime. The restoration on your implant(s) will require replacement when it becomes worn or damaged.
