Kids playing football or soccer gameDental bonding is one of the easiest cosmetic dental procedures to have done. It requires little preparation, and the whole procedure can be done in one visit to our office. Bonding is a great way to fix a chipped tooth caused by a child’s mishap or to improve your adult smile. If you are interested in dental bonding for yourself or your child, call Docklands Dental Studio at (03) 9021-9487 and schedule a consultation.

Bonding for Children

You never know when your child may need to have a tooth fixed. Maybe Oliver is playing goalie for his soccer team, and is facing a penalty kick. The whole team is excited, except for Oliver, when he blocks the kick….with his face. Now your little one is on the ground, with his mouth bleeding. When you get him cleaned up, you notice he has two chipped teeth right up front. While it may not hurt him physically, it could take a toll on him mentally, if kids at school make fun of him, or just because he doesn’t like the way it looks. It’s time for Oliver to visit Docklands Dental Studio.

When you bring your child to our welcoming office for a dental bonding procedure, you can expect the process to take approximately one hour. After a brief consultation, the doctor will apply a composite resin, tinted to match the tooth being repaired. The resin is applied in liquid form to the area where the tooth is missing structure. Once applied, the doctor will shape the resin, effectively rebuilding the tooth, and apply a curing light to harden the resin, bonding it to the tooth. Once the restoration is hardened, the doctor will polish it to match the natural teeth, and your child’s smile will be as good as new. While dental bonding is ideal for correcting minor chips in your child’s teeth, a deep chip may lead the doctors to recommend a crown to better reinforce the structure.

Bonding for Adults

Dental bonding isn’t just for fixing chipped teeth. It is a great cosmetic procedure for adults as well. If your teeth are short, misshapen, or discolored, dental bonding is an easy solution. Not only does the procedure not require any anesthesia, it also involves very little removal of existing enamel. We recommend dental bonding for the most visible teeth, where there is low bite pressure, because it will help your bonding last.

Dental bonding typically lasts about five to seven years. At that time, you can elect to have the bonding replaced, or you can elect to go with a more durable option: porcelain veneers. Veneers are custom made ceramic shells that are bonded to the front of your teeth. They are made to look natural and reflect light like natural tooth enamel. With proper care, veneers can last up to 20 years.
